The power steering fluid in your Chevy Cobalt is the lifeblood of the power steering system and allows you to steer the car easily. But if your steering has become very hard, there could be a leak. To make sure, check the power steering fluid as soon as possible to see if there is any missing. If so, you must get the leak fixed at an automotive repair facility. Remember to keep a bottle of power steering fluid in your car at all times in case you need it in an emergency.

Step 1

Open the hood of the Cobalt.

Step 2

Locate the power steering reservoir in the engine bay. It will be cylindrical in shape with a black cover, and it will say "Power Steering" on the cap. Look for it next to the windshield washer fluid.

Step 3

Open the cap of the power steering reservoir, and check the level of fluid on the dipstick (the dipstick is attached to the cap). There will be two markings labeled "Min" and "Max" on the dipstick. If the fluid is at the "Min" point, add power steering fluid to the reservoir and have the vehicle checked out by a professional for leakage.

Place the cap back into the reservoir, and close the hood of the car.
